Background

Japan International Cooperation Agency assisted Sikkim Biodiversity Conservation & Forest Management Project(SBFP) has provision of forming new SHGs or selecting existing SHGs (maximum 3 per JFMC/EDC/PSS) in 180 JFMC/EDC/PSS with active participation of villagers. The SHG which demonstrate institutional and financial capability will select Income Generation Activity (IGA), which may include non- forest based handicrafts, handlooms, agro-based, traditional activities like piggery, goat rearing, poultry etc. (non- forest based). SBFP will support IGA with a loan of Rs.60, 000/= (refundable to JFMC/EDC/PSS) in two instalments to a SHG for the implementation of IGA.
