Air Quality Index of Sikkim

Gangtok-Hospital DaraThe State Pollution Control Board Sikkim has been conducting ambient air quality monitoring under the National Ambient Air Monitoring Programme in eight stations in the state of Sikkim. As per the AQI monitoring being conducted during the current year 2024,  the ambient air quality in the state has been well within the permissible limits as per the provisions of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. While the AQI indices are under 'Good' category for majority of the towns, three major towns i.e Rangpo, Singtam and Deorali (Gangtok) in East Sikkim have fallen under 'Satisfactory' category which may be attributed to the fact that these towns are located in proximity to the National Highway NH10 which is subjected to heavy movement to vehicles.
