The World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5th June, under the leadership of the United Nations. It is the biggest step towards the positive environmental action. Every year it is hosted by a different Country and this year WED 2019 will be hosted by China, with the theme “Beat Air Pollution”. WED 2019 will urge Governments, Industries, Communities and Individuals to come together to explore renewable energy and other green technologies so as to improve air quality across the World.

 

Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management Department, Government of Sikkim is organising state level and district level function to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2019.

State level function is being celebrated at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok, East Sikkim. At the district level, the function is being organised at West District - Dodak Secondary School, North District - Phamtam Jr. High School and South District at Tendong Biodiveristy Park. The state-wide events including awards and felicitation to eco-club schools and field staffs, eco-competitions, deliberations, cleanliness drives and plantation drives will be observed through participation of political dignitaries, government officers, NGOs, private and local bodies, schools, colleges and general public at large.
