Organic-day-Sikkim Sikkim Organic Day

Sikkim Organic Day is observed in the Indian State of Sikkim on January 18 every year since 2016.

 

It has to be mentioned here that the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi had made the landmark declaration of Sikkim as the first Organic Farming State in the country on 18 January in 2016. Following the same, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Pawan Chamling announced that 18 January will be celebrated as Sikkim Organic Day every year.
 

This day is observed with displays of flowers, fruits, vegetables, roots and tubers, spices, mushrooms, medicinal plants, cereals, pulses and seeds of the State. The event also has competitions in cabbage, cauliflowers, tomato and broccoli in vegetable category and in cymbidium orchids in flower category and awards and felicitation to the  progressive farmers. The event is organised by Food Security & Agriculture Development and Horticulture & Cash Crops Development Department. The event will have the participation of farmers from different parts of the State along with stakeholders and delegates from in and outside the State.

National Cleanliness Day is observed annually on 30th January, to highlight the responsibilities of Environmental Cleanliness. This day encourages us to maintain the high standards of cleanliness in our home, work place, roads/streets and public places and to adopt basic sanitation measures. Various Schools, Non-Governmental Organizations and Corporates etc. collaborate to mark the importance of this day.
