November 11 World Soil Day

The International Union of Soil Sciences, in 2002, adopted a Resolution proposing the 5th of December as World Soil Day to celebrate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human wellbeing. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference, in June 2013, unanimously endorsed this day and requested its official adoption at the 68th UN General Assembly. Subsequently, in December 2013, the 68th UN General Assembly declared 5th of December as the World Soil Day. The theme for 2017 is “Caring for the planet starts from the ground”

 “International Mountain Day”, was designated by the UN General Assembly in 2003. The General Assembly encouraged the international community to organize events at all levels on this day to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development.
