The National Pollution Control Day is celebrated every year on 2nd of December in India in order to memorialize the thousands of innocent lives who lost their existence because of the Bhopal gas calamity, with an aim to make the people and industries aware about the need of pollution control laws. World Soil Day
December 5, 2017
The International Union of Soil Sciences, in 2002, adopted a Resolution proposing the 5th of December as World Soil Day to celebrate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human wellbeing. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference, in June 2013, unanimously endorsed this day and requested its official adoption at the 68th UN General Assembly. Subsequently, in December 2013, the 68th UN General Assembly declared 5th of December as the World Soil Day. The theme for 2017 is “Caring for the planet starts from the ground”

International Mountain Day

“International Mountain Day”, was designated by the UN General Assembly in 2003. The General Assembly encouraged the international community to organize events at all levels on this day to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development. This day is observed every year with a different theme relevant to sustainable mountain development to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world. This year’s theme is “Mountains under Pressure: climate, hunger, migration”.
