The Government of Sikkim has taken a number of new environment initiatives. They range from innovative concepts like 'A Day for Mother Earth' to be celebrated on 7th of July every year, banning of plastic water bottles up to 2 litres, novel initiatives like 'Sikkim Shishu Samridhi Yojana' under 'Mero Rukh Mero Santati' aimed at planting 108 trees to commemorate the birth of a child and opening of a fixed deposit account in the name of the child and other programmes like creation of nurseries in school to name a few. In order to provide an umbrella platform, mass involvement and enhanced focus on forestry and environment activities, the State Government will be celebrating the period from 1st July to 14th July every year as "Sikkim Paryavaran Parva". The theme for 2024 is "Leave a Green Legacy".
The activities being steered by Forest and Environment Department across the State during this period include:
01.07.2024: Launching/ Flag-off event at Himalayan Zoological Park premises. The Hon'ble Minister Forest will grace the occasion as the chief guest. Events: Curtain raiser, flag-off of mobile seedling distribution vans, signature campaign on LiFE pledge, Greenathon (5k Green Walk and 10K Green Run, Green Ride). 01.07.2024 to 07.07.2024: Celebrating Santati Saptah. Intentive plantation under #MeroRukhMeroSantati - planting 108 trees for every new born in Sikkim, mass avenue plantation with tagline "#MeroBaatoMero Bote" and plantation drive under #Plant4Mother #EkPedMaaKeNaam. Community clean-up drives and sensitization campaigns. Free distribution of seedlings, plantation and cleanup drives engaging dignitaries, other government departments, industrial units, NGOs, local associations, schools, youths and public.
01.07.2024 to 14.07.2024: Fortnight-long Activities
- Propagation of Mission LiFE actions such as curbing SUPs, promoting zero waste and sustainable lifestyle.
- Quiz, poem, essay and painting competitions at schools.

07.07.2024: Celebration of A Day for Mother Earth. The state-level event will be held at Manan Kendra (Tentative), Gangtok and will be graced by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang as the chief guest. Events: Presensation of Chief Minister's Green School Rolling Trophy and State Green School Awards 2024, Presentation of Raj Van Sangrakshan evam Paryavaran Puraskar, Best Asha Worker Award, Skit on e-Marking Order, Release of Books etc and exemplaray event of stoppage of all vehicles except emergency and essential services for 7 minutes from 11am to 11.07am.
