National Pollution Control DayNational Pollution Control Day

The National Pollution Control Day is marked every year on 2nd of December in India, to give the honour and memorialize the thousands of human beings who had lost their existence because of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. The day aims to spread awareness on managing and controlling Industrial disasters, and prevent the pollution produced by Industrial processes or human negligence as well as to make people and Industries aware about the importance of Pollution Control Acts.

 

This day is observed in the memory of people who lost their lives in Bhopal gas calamity. Bhopal gas tragedy occurred in the year 1984 on the night of 2–3 December. Many people died due to poisonous gas Methyl Isocyanate also known as MIC. Bhopal Gas Tragedy is considered as one of biggest industrial pollution disasters.

 

Due to different types of pollution, natural resources such as water, air, land or forest are being affected speedily. Thus, it is very essential to implement the rules and regulations properly to protect the environment and to reduce the pollution.

Chemical Disaster Prevention DayChemical Disaster Prevention Day

The Chemical Disaster Prevention Day is observed every year on 4th December to emphasize the importance of chemical safety keeping in view the incident of Bhopal Gas Tragedy. This day marks the World’s worst Industrial Disaster that took place in Union Carbide Factory, Bhopal and pay homage to the innocent lives lost during the incident. The day aims to strengthen the Legal framework on Chemical Safety and better management to avoid any such chemical accidents.

Human Rights DayHuman Rights Day

The Human Rights Day is marked by the International Community every year on 10th December. It commemorates with the day in 1948, when the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) with an aim to focus on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts. The 75th Anniversary of the UDHR will be celebrated on 10th December 2023. Ahead of this milestone, starting on this year’s Human Rights Day, the UN is launching a year-long campaign with the theme “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All” to showcase the UDHR by focusing on its legacy, relevance and activism.

International Mountain Day (IMD), designated by the United Nations, is celebrated every year on 11th December to raise awareness about the relevance of mountain to life. The theme for the year 2022 is “Women move mountains” as Women are the primary managers of mountain resources, guardian of biodiversity, keepers of traditional knowledge, custodians of local culture, and experts in traditional medicine, and yet are not recognised due to lack of decision-making power and unequal access to resources.
