World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought

The United Nations General Assembly declared the World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought to be observed on 17th June of every year. The purpose of this day is to promote public awareness of the issue, let people know that desertification & drought can be effectively tackled and to strengthen implementation of the United Nations Convention to combat Desertification.

This year, the day is to be hosted by Spain with the theme “Rising up from Drought Together”, putting the global spotlight on the urgent issue of drought, instigating early action to prevent disastrous outcomes.
