This day coincides with the foundation day of the World Health Organization (WHO), therefore in this 70th anniversary year, WHO is calling on world leaders to live up to the pledges they made when they agreed the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, and commit to concrete steps to advance the health of all people.

 

The WHO’s theme for 2018 is: “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere”, to ensure that everyone can access essential quality health services without facing financial hardships.

Fire Service Week Fire Service Week

The Fire Services Week (FSW) is observed nation-wide under the guidance of the Fire Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India during 14th-20th April. This is in remembrance of the lives lost in the devastating fire and explosions that followed on 14th April 1944, at the Victoria Dock in Bombay Port.

 

The National Safety Council has been propagating this week since 1999, as a grim reminder to all the sections of society, business and industry to review their fire safety needs, develop suitable strategies for fire prevention, fire control, rescue and rehabilitation and undertake a campaign for fire safety during the FSW.

In 1982, the International Council on Monuments and Sites announced, 18th April as the “World Heritage Day”, approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1983.

 

This special day offers an opportunity to raise public awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as draw attention to its vulnerability.
