World Toilet Day
November 19, 2016
World Toilet Day is a campaign to motivate and mobilize millions around the world on issues of sanitation. It is celebrated annually on 19th November by NGOs, UN agencies, private sector, civil society organisations and the international community. It deemed the practice of open-air defecation as “extremely harmful” to public health.
This year’s theme focuses on “Toilets and Jobs.”
The theme focuses on how sanitation, or the lack of it, can impact livelihoods. Toilets play a crucial role in creating a strong economy, as well as improving health and protecting people’s safety and dignity, particularly of the women and girls.
