Air quality in various parts of Sikkim remained good on deepawali nights as minimal impacts was recorded in almost all the eight locations in the State. The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), which monitored ambient air quality before and during deepawali festival showed good indices in at least seven of the eight locations.

 

Air quality of Rangpo was satisfactory at 72 points causing minor breathing discomfort to sensitive people while that of Deorali, Singtam, Ravangla, Namchi, Pelling, Chungthang and Mangan remained good showing minimal impact.

 

On pre-deepawali monitoring, Rangpo and Singtam had satisfactory air quality index while the six other locations had good with minimal impact.

 

Further noise level monitored at Titanic Park, Gangtok was also within permissible limits as per the noise level data before and during deepawali. SPCB has attributed to the fact that people have refrained from using firecrackers and the collective initiative taken by the general public, the State government to reduce air pollution has been successful.
