WIPRO Earthian Awards 2022

Sir Tashi Namgyal Government Senior Secondary School, Gangtok to be conferred Earthian Awards 2022 by WIPRO Foundation

Sir Tashi Namgyal Government Sr. Secondary School from Gangtok, Sikkim has been confirmed with a WIPRO Earthian Awards 2022 for excellency in Sustainability & Water Project conducted as a part of eco-Club activity. The award will be conferred on February 11, 2023 at Bengaluru on the 12th edition of the WIPRO Earthian Awards 2022, wherein five students and eco-club teacher Mr Binod Pokhrel have been invited. The award shall include certificates and cash reward of Rs 50,000. The school has been ranked amongst India's top 20 schools under the earthian schools programme 2022-23 facilitated in Sikkim by State ENVIS Hub, Forest and Environment Department (SNA Sikkim). The school's eco-club had actively conducted action oriented project on sustainable water management practices. About 200 school eco-clubs from Sikkim state had ventured into earthian schools programme, out of which, about 9 schools were nominated by State ENVIS hub for National earthian WIPRO awards.


From over 55,000 schools and colleges, 1,30,000 students and 13,000 teachers from across the country, demonstrating their understanding of sustainable biodiversity, waste and water management practices through a combination of activity-based learning programmes and written essays, one Sikkim government school eco-club from Sir Tashi Namgyal Sr. Secondary School, Gangtok, Sikkim has managed to impress independent jury by showcasing sustainable water management practices at school. Sikkim school is one amongst the 20 schools and 8 colleges across the country that has been adjudged as winners in the WIPRO Earthian Awards 2022.


The State Nodal Agency for Eco-club programme, that is, Sikkim ENVIS Hub at Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim has been partnering with WIPRO earthian for imparting environment education to school eco-clubs since 2015. The first school from Sikkim to bag such award was in the year 2015 by Government Secondary School, Bongten, West Sikkim, followed by Government Senior Secondary School, Bojoghari Gangtok District in 2019. With the 2022 awards being conferred to Sikkim school, so far, three schools from Sikkim have made into the earthian award merit list.
