Nature Interpretation Centre at Melli inaugurated

 

 

Nature Interpretation Centre at Melli inauguratedMelli, South Sikkim | 08.02.2022: The Nature Interpretation Centre at Melli constructed under the Sikkim Biodiversity Conservation and Forest Management Project (SBFP) JICA assisted project was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister Forest &Environment Shri Karma Loday Bhutia on Tuesday, 08.02.2022.

 


The program started with unveiling of the ceremonial plaque and cutting of the inaugural ribbon by the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest and Dignitaries inspected the exhibits on public display at Nature Interpretation Center. Shri NW Tamang, IFS Project Director informed the gathering about the role of JFMCs and EDCs in Forest Management and how such centers can prove beneficial for the livelihood of locals peoples.The DFO & Nodal Officer Ms. Arati Basnet briefed the house regarding the purpose of the Interpretation Center. She also outlined the use and role of such facilities as center for dissemination of information on environment, forests and wildlife to visitors. Speaking on the occasion, Shri M.L. Srivastava, IFS, ACS-cum-PCCF and Chief Project Director highlighted the role played by the SBFP project in providing employment opportunities in the state.

 

Addressing the formal function, the Hon’ble Minister Shri Karma Loday Bhutia appreciated the development of such facilities aimed at sensitizing visitors about the rich biodiversity wealth of the state and promoting nature conservation. He appreciated the efforts taken by SBFP for development of Nature Interpretation Centre at Melli and also stressed on wide publicity of such facilities and local peoples' participation in eco-tourism.

 

The function also saw the presence of Hon'ble area MLA Mrs Pharwanti Tamang, area in-charge Shri Tilak Basnett, alongside senior officials of the Revenue, Police and Forest Department, Govt. of Sikkim.

 

The Nature Interpretation Centre at Melli is handed over to Namchi Territorial Forest Division for operation and centre is open for dignitaries, guest, visitor and tourist from 9 am to 5 pm on all days.
