The World Wetlands Day was celebrated on the 2nd of February, 2018 on the theme “Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future” in Sikkim by multi-stakeholder contingent at the premises of Tsomgo Lake, East Sikkim and Khecheopalri Lake, West Sikkim which are sacred lakes of Sikkim mostly visited by tourists. The event witnessed local participation of youths, villagers, tour operators, army personnel, NGOs – members of Pokhari Sangrakshan Samitis and officials from the department of Forests, Environment and Wildlife Management Department, Government of Sikkim. The main activities included interaction and sensitization drive, distribution of garbage disposal bag for vehicles, ENVIS publications and cleanliness drive at the lake premises.
