ENVIS Sikkim Report:  As a part of Paryavaran Mahotsav 2015 programme, Greenathon (Green Run and Green Walk for a Clean and Green Sikkim) was organized on 28th June 2015 by the Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management Department at MG Marg, Gangtok. The event was flagged off by the Hon’ble Minister Forests Shri TsheringWangdiLepcha at 7 AM from MG Marg. The event was participated by about 300 students, ex-servicemen, government officers, businessmen and local people including senior citizens within and around Gangtok.

 

The prizes in open categories for male and female included trophies, certificate and cash prizes. The winners in male category were Suman Sharma (1st), Ram Bahadur Neopaney (2nd), AbhishekChettri (3rd) and in female category were MangaliTamang (1st), Chandra Kala Sharma (2nd) and AnjuliSubba (3rd). Consolation prizes to first finishers in under-14 category, Master Rahul Darnal and Miss RanjanaTamang were also handed away certificates and token cash prize. In the veteran category, the first finisher Mr. Pahal Man Limboo was also handed away certificate and token cash prize.

 

Similar events were also organized at district headquarters of North, South and East districts. The green run and green walk was organized to create awareness and send message for clean and green Sikkim.

ENVIS Sikkim Report:  The State Government's flagship initiative as conceived by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling himself during the year 2009 was observed for the 7th consecutive year throughtout the State.

 

The ceremonial plantation drive was conducted at VIP colony, Gangtok on 25th June 2015 from 10 am onwards by the Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Shriniwas Patil and the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Pawan Chamling along with his cabinet Miniters and other political dignitaries, Head of the Departments and other government officials. Later the dignitaries also released ENVIS publication "Paryavaran Mahotsav 2014" Report.


The ten minutes plantation drive was also conducted at various locations in all four districts of the State. Total 79,019 number of saplings were planted during the ten minutes duration in the State.

ENVIS SIKKIM Report, June 15, 2015: The Hon'ble Minister (Forests) Shri Tshering Wangdi Lepcha today flagged off the 3rd successive Paryavaran Mahotsav from MG Marg Gangtok in presence of officials from Forest, GMC and other departments including local people and students. This environment festival of Sikkim is to be observed from June 15 to June 30 as conceived by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Pawan Chamling during 2013 and notified in the State Government Gazette vide Notification No. 40/Home dated 21/06/2013 that the period from 15th June to 30th June shall be observed as "Paryavaran Mahotsav" in the State of Sikkim every year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the flag off programme, the Minister Shri T W Lepcha distributed garbage disposal bags for vehices, handed away Tulshi plant saplings to environment enthusiasts and also launced the signature campaign to pledge for clean and green environment.

 

To commemorate the 2015 event, various activities as under shall be carried out throughout the State.

  • Massive plantation drives under the State's flagship programmes viz. State Green Mission (10th Phase) and Ten Minutes to Earth (7th phase) on June 25
  • Cleanliness drives
  • Greenathon (Green Walk and Green Run for Green and Clean Sikkim)
  • Signature campaign
  • Eco-competitions at schools,
  • Release of Posters, Go-Green stickers, 2014 Activtiy booklet and garbage bags for vehicles
  • Awareness campaigns
  • Environment lectures on Low Carbon Lifestyles at various schools and colleges in the State.
