February 4, New Delhi: PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School Namchi was today conferred with National Green Schools Award by Centre for Science and Environment in a Green Carnival and Green Schools Award ceremony held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
The award comprising of green school certificate was presented by Sunita Narain, Director-General, CSE and received by K.S. Rai, Green Teacher and two students, Prateek Adhikari and Aditya Kumar, the members of Green School Audit Team.
Green Carnival and Green Award Ceremony is the annual event organised by Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi. The 2025 event engaged young environmentalists from various schools across the country. It also awarded the schools that were Green after a thorough process of Green Schools Audit spanning from July-December.
As per the CSE’s report, there were over 10,000 schools across the country that submitted the Green School Audit reports, in which only 150 schools were rated Green for the session 2024-25.. Out of these schools, a lone school that has been rated Green from the entire NorthEast region is PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Namchi Sikkim among the top 100s.
The school has been able to achieve this fete after 10 years of concerted efforts by the school Eco-Club members. Through the Green School Audit over the years, this school has realised that a green school is not just making the school surrounding look green, rather it is the sustainable practices and efforts to improve the quality of air, land, water, energy, food and waste management practices. The school gives credit to ENVIS Hub, Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim for conducting regular trainings and providing necessary knowledge tools and support for the school eco-clubs under the Environment Education Programme.
