Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2023 (July 1-14) celebrated

 

The 1st edition of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva with the theme 'Leave a Green Legacy' celebrated across the State of Sikkim with great zest and fervor


 

parvaThe Government of Sikkim has taken a number of new environment initiatives. They range from innovative concepts like 'A Day for Mother Earth' to be celebrated on 7th of July every year, banning of plastic water bottles up to 2 litres, novel initiatives like 'Mero Rukh Mero Santi' aimed at planting 108 trees to commemorate the birth of a child and the programmes like creation of nurseries in school to name a few. In order to provide an umbrella platform, mass involvement and enhanced focus on forestry and environment activities, the State Government celebrated the period from 1st July to 14th July as "Sikkim Paryavaran Parva".

 

 

The theme for 2023 was "Leave a Green Legacy".

 

The activities steered by Forest and Environment Department across the State of Sikkim during this period included flag-off event, distrbution of saplings through mobile vans, celebration of Hariyali Saptah, Santati Saptah with intensified plantation drive under Mero Rukh Mero Santati initiative, celebration of A Day for Mother Earth with exemplary event of stopping all vehicular movements for 7 minutes from 11am onwards on July 7, presentation of Chief Minister's Green School Rolling Trophy and State Green School Awards, Release of Books, Awards and Felicitations, Skits, Quiz competitions for school children, Green Reels Competition, Crowd sourcing of ideas for environment conservation, Green walks, rallies, signature campaigns, propagation of Mission LiFE actions, Greenathon and many more.
