It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. This day is one of the eight (8) official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The National Pollution Control Day is celebrated annually on 2nd December in India, in order to memorialize the thousands of innocent lives who lost their existence because of the Bhopal gas calamity, with an aim to make the people and industries aware about the need of pollution control laws. This calamity was identified as one of the biggest industrial pollution disasters of the history worldwide which drew everyone’s focus towards serious preventive measures and risk assessment studies for industries, in order to prevent from such type of disasters in the future.

Chemical Disaster Prevention Day is observed annually on 4th December to emphasise the need to produce, store, handle transport chemicals safely and for adopting precautions for chemical safety in industries. World Soil Day is observed annually on 5th December to acknowledge the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human wellbeing. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference, in June 2013, unanimously endorsed this day and requested its official adoption at the 68th UN General Assembly.
