The Government of Sikkim has taken a number of new environment initiatives. They range from innovative concepts like 'A Day for Mother Earth' to be celebrated on 7th of July every year, banning of plastic water bottles up to 2 litres, novel initiatives like 'Sikkim Shishu Samridhi Yojana' under 'Mero Rukh Mero Santati' aimed at planting 108 trees to commemorate the birth of a child and opening of a fixed deposit account in the name of the child, 'Mero Bato Mero Bot' for greener and beautiful roads mobilizing mass avenue plantation drives along with other programmes like creation of nurseries in school to name a few. In order to provide an umbrella platform, mass involvement and enhanced focus on forestry and environment activities, the State Government celebrates the period from 1st July to 14th July every year as "Sikkim Paryavaran Parva". The theme for 2025 is "Leave a Green Legacy".

The activities being steered by Forest and Environment Department across the State during this period include:

01.07.2025: Launching/ Flag-off event at Maitri Manjari Park / Ridge park premises. Events: Curtain raiser, flag-off of mobile seedling distribution vans, signature campaign on LiFE pledge, Greenathon (5k Green Walk and 10K Green Run, Green Ride). All are invited!! 

01.07.2025 to 07.07.2025:  Celebrating Santati Saptah. Intensive plantation under #MeroRukhMeroSantati - planting 108 trees for every new born in Sikkim, mass avenue plantation with tagline "#MeroBaatoMero Bote" and plantation drive under #Plant4Mother #EkPedMaaKeNaam. Community clean-up drives and sensitization campaigns. Free distribution of seedlings, plantation and cleanup drives engaging dignitaries, other government departments, industrial units, NGOs, local associations, schools, youths and public.

01.07.2025 to 14.07.2025: Fortnight-long Activities

- Propagation of Mission LiFE actions such as curbing SUPs, promoting zero waste and sustainable lifestyle, LiFE pledge, signature campaigns etc.

- The Green Quiz: Televised Inter-School Sr. Secondary level Quiz competition; similar events (quiz, poem, essay and painting competitions at school level.

- Crowd sourcing of public opinion/ suggestion/ ideas on constructive green policy measures. » Click here to participate

07.07.2025: Celebration of A Day for Mother Earth. Key events:  Exemplaray event of stoppage of all vehicles across the State except emergency and essential services for 7 minutes from 11am to 11.07am. Plantation and cleanup drives.

-  Paryavaran Rallies and propagation of Mission LiFE actions by School Eco-Clubs.

Culmination Event. Events:  Presensation of Awards abd Felicitations, Best MRMS-Asha Award, Skit on Mero Bato Mero Bot, Release of Books, AV presenation and as on.
