Sikkim CM receives 6th JRD Tata Memorial Award

 

The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Pawan Chamling on October 13, 2018 received the 6th JRD Tata Memorial Award conferred by The Population Foundation of India at New Delhi which had selected Sikkim as the best performing State under ‘high focus category – North East’.


The selection was made on the basis of index of 35 indicators recommended by the Technology Advisory Committee for the awards with strong bearing on reproductive health, gender equity, family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene, women’s empowerment, gender-based violence and fertility of the population.
Accepting the award, the Chief Minister said that it is a great honour to receive this prestigious award and expressed his gratefulness to the Population Foundation of India for selecting Sikkim as the best performing State.


The Chief Minister further said that he found special privilege to accept this second award on behalf of the Sikkim State and its people, the first being the 4th JRD Tata Memorial Award for Sikkim on January 9, 2009, the release mentions.


While delivering his JRD Tata Oration, the Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog, Dr. Rajiv Kumar lauded Sikkim for its overall development and also in health sector and specially mentioned Small Family Scheme. He congratulated the Sikkim Chief Minister for launching the Small Family Scheme to delay marriage of girl child and providing also monetary incentives.
