Riverfront Cleanliness drive flags off

Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Departrment, Government of Sikkim flagged off 20 days riverfront cleanup drive at river Rani Chu, Ranipool with active participation of eco-club school Biraspati Parsai Government Sr. Secondary School, Ganagtok Municipal Corporation, State Pollution Control Board and Environment & Soil Conservation wing in an event coordinated by Sikkim State ENVIS Hub.
The programme was flagged off by Deputy Mayor Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Councillor Ranipool and Addl PCCF on 15.05.2018 at 11 AM. The cleanup drive was undertaken along the river Rani chu stretch at Ranipool town 12 kms away from Gangtok City. Aproximately 200 kgs of plastic waste was collected along the river belt and safely disposed off to the landfill site.
The riverfront cleanup drive is a part of World Environment Day activtity on the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" and is supported by the MoEFCC.
